Trust And Obey
Abraham is distracted from hearing / trusting God’s truth and protection – ‘ I am your shield. ‘ .. The whole armour – and we’re talking about the shield and God is our shield – can only be effective when we trust and obey God. As the apostle says..
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked..
Shield Of Faith And Truth
.. So we’re being shown that the shield is like the Word of God – the truth of God. It’s now also the shield of faith. We’re getting the idea we have faith in this.. faith in God’s Word. When we have faith in God’s Word that is the shield that protects us. It protects us from unbelief.. looking at the symptoms or listening to the enemy. It protects us just as the shield is protecting from those fiery darts. So that is it’s nature..
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Ephesians 6:16-18
Effective Warfare
.. So you can’t separate any of this. You can’t even enter spiritual battle if you are somebody that is not confessing the promises of God or believing the promises.. trying to change the promises of God. That can be a form of lying. The armour will not be protective, that shield will not work. This is why we make so much of faith, trusting in God – the promises of God because as you do you will experience this armour. You will experience what God says, ‘ I am your shield. I am going to protect you from those fiery darts of unbelief, the lies of the enemy. ‘
Active And Focussed
You are aware of the attacks but they are not penetrating. You are focussed on the Lord and on His promises. But if you are not sure about them or you are changing what God has said – ‘ He doesn’t really mean that. ‘ or you are not always a truthful person – then you will have problems. That shield comes down.. .. ..
