Is Your Confession Inspired By The Spirit Or Intellect?
<< ‘Is Your Confession Inspired By The Spirit Or Your Intellect?’ >>
Romans 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
The Nature of Right Confession
Right confession is when our words confirm our righteousness, if we are made right with God then we start to speak what God says – what God has done and what God will do. That is why we have the Word of God.
You cannot be righteous and not say anything, the two have to work together. We confess what God says regarding our right standing that He has given us in Christ Jesus. What we read and hear is what we confess.
Intellect enables us to initially take in the Word rationally, but it must not remain in the mind but must drop that 18 inches to the heart.
Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Certain things happen in lives where God’s seed is being planted into the heart:
The Living Word will convict and constantly challenge and will evoke an earnest desire to communicate and confirm with God what we have heard or read.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The Signs of Confession Inspired By The Spirit
A soft and receptive heart has an insatiable appetite for the Word of God: it is like a field where unlimited seeds may be planted – on and on in this life for harvest at that right time.
The desire to experience the promises in God’s Word is expressed in confession and nurtured in prayer. The Persuasion and influence of God’s Word eclipses all worldly circumstances.
2Corinthians 3:2-6 Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:
Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
Confession inspired by the Spirit comes from a soft heart which has received the life of the Word freely given and not from a strong mind which tries to understand and control it. We rightly confess only what is inspired – what is revealed to us by the Holy Spirit.
John 6:60-63 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear/understand it?
When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
Spirit or Intellect?
What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
1Corinthians 2:1-5 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.
And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God…
..1Corinthians 2:11-14 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned…
..1Corinthians 2:16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
The Power of the Tongue
Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
James 1:26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
James 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
Your confession reveals who and what you really are. A Jesus disciple has no opinion other than the revealed Word of God. Words carry weight, worldly confessions and wrong advice – negative words destroy.
Only the confessed Word of God brings life. Stand with your brother and sister confessing what the Word of God says – pressing through in the unction of the Spirit for the answer. In deep trial the intellect will never understand, only the heart.
Matthew 11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
Matthew 6:10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
It all starts by confessing the promises..
