Samuel also said unto Saul, The LORD sent me to anoint thee to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the LORD. 1Samuel 15:1
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt. 1Samuel 15:2
Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass. 1Samuel 15:3
Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the LORD, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the LORD? 1Samuel 15:19
And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. 1Samuel 15:22
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king. 1Samuel 15:23
Death To The Cannaanites
..God intends to kill the flesh. Everything that is of flesh God will kill it – destroy it utterly. Here we see similarities. These people are wicked, they are vile, they are degenerate. They have to be destroyed because they will be a bad influence on the Children of Israel in their conquering the land.. They have to destroy everything that will influence them into idolatry and abominable ways. And so it’s similar with us, God has to kill the flesh.. ‘ It’s Better To Obey. ‘
For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. Romans 8:5
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Romans 8:6
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. Romans 8:7
So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. Romans 8:8
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Romans 8:9
And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. Romans 8:10
But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Romans 8:11
Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. Romans 8:12
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. Romans 8:13
It’s Warfare
..These are the very things we are to put to death. We put to death unforgiveness, we put to death that resentment.. Those lusts, those impure thoughts – we cast them down in obedience to Christ. We are in a warfare at times. We are to deal violently if need be on these things. This is why the cross is presented to us that we are to daily take up and follow the Lord..
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:2
For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. Colossians 3:3
Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry Colossians 3:5
For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience Colossians 3:6
Be On Guard
..We see the same similarities of how Saul was told to destroy all the Amalakites – to destroy everything. That’s why I’m calling this teaching today ‘ It’s Better To Obey. ‘ Sometimes we argue with God – sometimes we want our own way. We’re self-centred, but we see what that is. It can be rebellion. It can be the sin of witchcraft – stubbornness. These are things that have to be destroyed in our lives.. These things can rear their ugly heads so easily. So each day we have to be on our guard – we have to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh.. ..
