 Jesus The Open Door

John 10:7-9 Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.

Here Jesus reveals Himself as the spiritual door and each sheep goes through this door, one by one to find pastures which speak of our spiritual food, protection, fellowship.  But what does this door really mean?

Hebrews 10:14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.

Jesus has offered himself up, by giving of Himself He has made a doorway for us to enter the presence of Almighty God.  We trample this offering underfoot if we think it was given simply because we were sorry for our sins and we really need to understand what our new birth is.

How do we find ourselves confessing Jesus as our Lord and saviour and yet it is so vital that we stand firmly on our foundation – the rock of Jesus Christ. If you take away the death of Jesus Christ you have no new birth, no  gospel, no New Testament, no hope.  We have to come back to the realization that it took the death of Jesus Christ in His humanity to be that open door for each of us in which we enter

If we don’t fully understand the death of Jesus Christ, seeing this as the central part of the Gospel, then I question whether we’re really born again.  Our repentance is the realization of our atonement by the cross of Jesus which He has provided for us.  That might not seem anything new or revelation, but on the basis of repentance which is what I want to talk about tonight….

Our repentance is a revelation and understanding of the atonement that Christ provided for us on the cross.  Without this understanding there is no repentance
