Learnng From My Brother And Sister – Pastor Kim – 9th Oct’16

Introduction

Learning From My Brother And Sister is integral to the effective functioning of the   Church.  Body Ministry is a continual learning process,  the Body of Christ certainly was a mystery under the Old Covenant and the apostle Paul started to bring out the revelation, but there is still much to explore and experience until the full manifestation when the Bride of Christ is caught away to be married in Glory.  Until then brothers and sisters have a vital part to play in this practical learning process.

A truly born again, filled with the  Spirit disciple of Christ is to bear fruit.  How?  By being set in the Body of Christ to learn how from his/her brother and sister.  We all of us know that we are work in progress – that we are on a journey.  But the point is that we can learn from each other.  It’s not so much the profound things, it is by the small things that we are to mutually  encourage and edify one another.

Learning To Serve In The The Newness Of The Spirit

Romans 7:4-6 Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God. For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.

Galatians 5:22-24 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

There’s  far more going on with us if we take the time to humble ourselves observe watch and learn from the godly things other brothers and sisters are doing.  Maybe there’s a brother or sister that is revealing a certain type of fruit and the Holy Spirit makes you sensitive to what He’s doing through that sister or brother.  Now there’s no point in  observing these things if it’s not going to do something with me so that I change.

John 15:16-17 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. 17 These things I command you, that you love one another.

Luke 13:6-9 He also spoke this parable: “A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. Then he said to the keeper of his vineyard, ‘Look, for three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and find none. Cut it down; why does it use up the ground?’But he answered and said to him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it. And if it bears fruit, well. But if not, after that you can cut it down.’”

1 Peter 2:4-5 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

A merciful God is giving time to bear His appointed fruit.  Now there is no excuse, He is going to work this fruit baring work in us together as we ask the Father in Jesus name.

We are to stand shoulder to shoulder – drawing from The Spirit of The Lord and from each other – functioning together.

Having A Humble And Teachable Spirit

1 Peter 5:1-7

Shepherd the Flock

The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed: Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.

Submit to God, Resist the Devil

Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for

“God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.”

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Conclusion

Am I humble in the presence of the body of Christ?  Do I desire to come to these meetings to learn – not just through the school of the Word but also through my brother and sister?  God wants us to serve this assembly with passion and commitment.  I have the opportunity if I desire and the Lord so opens my eyes – to continually learn from my brother and sister in some way or some form.

Jesus stand among us at the joining of our lives

Be our sweet agreement at the meeting of our eyes
