2 Peter 1:1-4 King James Version (KJV)
1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Word of Life
What a statement, this is so profound that there aren’t words enough to express. The apostle is encouraging the saints and indeed encouraging us. We are partakers of His divine nature – partakers of the promises of God in His Word. This is what sorts out the men from the boys.
The question is ‘are we partaking of that nature? Are we experiencing that new birth receiving Christ as Lord?’ Are we feeding off that very nature that lives and resides within us? If we have received of His fullness then we are open also to receive God’s Word. The promises are yes and amen in Christ Jesus.
We need that life to be able to overcome the Spirit Of This Age. Remember that the God of this world the bible tells us is Satan himself. This means that we are the prime target of the Powers Of Darkness. He is therefore always getting us to retract, compromise and make friends with the world. That is why we need to be empowered, baptised by the Holy Spirit so that we can overcome …
