Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. John 8:28 (KJV) ‘ The Lifting Up Of Jesus. ‘
So He refers to the greater one in His earthly ministry. That is His Father, the one who is going to raise Him from the dead at Calvary. So the idea of all of this is to be raised up. To be seen. Now again we need to look at some of these words. These ideas – what is actually meant here of raising Jesus. We also will be raised. There’s going to be allot of raising that is going to go on at the end of the age. But this idea of being raised regarding what Jesus is speaking about is being raised to honour, to dignity. It also can be referred to being raised up into glory prosperity and opulence. It is used of elevation.
Death Before Glory
But of course Jesus was raised on the cross. Before He is raised into glory He must be raised up on that cross in which to die. That was a form of being raised – but it had to be death first. Humiliation – taking mans punishment guilt and sin upon Himself. And that’s how it works. Before you and I are raised we have to first experience the cross being raised up in our live first.
Romans twelve one and two speaks about presenting yourself as a living sacrifice upon the cross. It again means to raise yourself up – to place yourself in that position. It’s a form of elevation. And this is where we get these ideas. But we have to be raised first – it has to be the cross. It had to be for Jesus in order to win the victory over death and sin.. ..
