The Promises Of God Cleanse Us

I’m calling our teaching today ‘ The Promises Of God Cleanse Us ‘. Let’s turn to something we know very well in second Corinthians chapter seven and verse one. Here the apostle says to the Corinthian church:

2 Corinthians 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

.. This is an exhortation today to remind us of these promises that the enemy tries to get our minds and attention away from. He can be very subtle – how he can do this.

The Promises Of God Cleanse Us

The apostle.. (in 2 Corinthians) is very much defending his ministry. He is reminding them of what they have received, and how he’s encouraged them.. He stuck with them even though.. they were still childlike. They had need of growing up, there were still divisions arguments conflicts.

The Promises Of God Cleanse Us

‘ Come on grow up –

move from these things because it just causes strife –

the enemy uses it and he tries to hold you back ‘.

The Enemies Tactic

This has been the enemies tactic over the Christian church from.. Pentecost. But the overcomers don’t fall for that because they see sonship. And we are pressing in for that as the bride is making herself ready..

The Cleansing Word

I’m stating this because this is the key – the clue if you like – as to how we mature and grow. This is why we make much about the promises of God. They are not just promises encouraging our faith to believe. From the text we see that in nature the promises cleanse us. We are being cleansed from defilement.. Cleansed from any spot or blemish that would be found on our garments. Our garments are to be pure and white and spotless. So by the very nature of these garments any blemish will be clearly seen. That is why we have the tradition of a bride wearing white.. That is why we have the tradition of a bride wearing white.. There’s a whiteness in God’s presence that is acceptable..
