Unity in the church body

RECONCILIATION#3

‘Oneness And Unity’

We’ll continue God willing looking at where we were last time – we were looking at reconciliation. We were actually in Ephesians but we were looking at what the apostle Paul was writing to the Corinthians – 2nd Corinthians 5 starting with verse 14 – this is expanding what he was saying to the Ephesian church.

But I want to look at this and other scriptures in terms of reconciliation. There are a number of things that work with reconciliation – imputation, substitution, propitiation – all those big theological words that basically mean that God sent His Son to the cross in our place to appease His wrath and we’re now at peace with Him praise God, because of what Jesus did for us and what the Holy Spirit is now doing in and through us.

So don’t be daunted by these huge long theological words. At the end of the day our salvation all boils down to what Jesus did at the cross, and what the Holy Spirit is working through us – the self same thing. Praise God for doctrine, we know doctrine – but the Holy Spirit bringing to bear in our experience all that He’s teaching us.

You cannot separate the doctrine from it’s purpose. James said ‘..to him that knoweth to do good and doeth it not, to him it is sin – that’s because we tend to separate the doctrine from its purpose, so that applies to head knowledge – you know to do something and yet to not do it – being sin. But praise God He is at work. James 4:17 speaks of that but as the Holy Spirit begins to work in us both to will and to do for His good pleasure – even that sin is covered.

We experience really don’t we that love truly covers a multitude of sins. I know I’m here this evening because God love has covered a multitude of my sins … as we bear with one another those sins are covered.

We could very easily take revenge couldn’t we – stand up for justice – ‘..but she said and he did’ and all that, but you know dear freinds, the gospel is forgiveness. ‘Father forgive them for they don’t know what they are doing….
