We Are To Take The Overcoming Life Seriously

1 Thessalonians 2:12 That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.
Ephesians 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
Matthew 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

I have a title for us to consider, a very important one – one that we know well. But we have to go over these points I think to remind ourselves. And we’re calling this teaching ‘ We Are To Take The Overcoming Life Seriously. ‘ I don’t hear the word ‘ overcoming ‘ used very often in Christendom when I sometimes listen to teachings or share and talk with other Christians. It’s not really a word that comes up that much, and yet the Book of Revelation opens up with seven churches about overcoming.

We Are To Take The Overcoming Life Seriously

The Book of Revelation is indeed for the End Times as we know, and the key to it is ‘ overcoming ‘. And yet it’s not really talked much about or possibly even understood. We talk about it much in the Assembly, we’ve had teaching on it over the years and from Faith Assembly and so on. And yet it’s not something that has moved rapidly around the world like a great revival. On the contrary it seems that few really understand this and know what this is really about..

The overcoming life is the pathway into the deeper life. That is the key to this – it is the pathway into that deeper life – that walk in the Spirit that Romans 8 tells us we should walk in. We know that God’s message to the seven churches is a promise of inheritance. There’s nothing mentioned to those who allow themselves to be overcome. The promise is only to those who are overcomers. Are we going to allow circumstances – life’s trials – to overcome us? That is the question.. .. ..

Revelation 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.
17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
Revelation 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
Hebrews 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
