James 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
So it means then – ‘ the faith you think you have – will it save you?’ ‘Cos that’s really how it’s reading. It means ‘ the faith that you have – is it going to save you? ‘ And he raises that question and we have to come back and say ‘ my faith that will save me is a faith that is motivated by the love of God. ‘ Because you can’t appeal to anything greater than the love of God. And so everything I say and do – my actions and everything – is by faith motivated by the love of God. ‘ Without Love It Isn’t True Faith. ‘
Motivated By The Love Of God
Now of course only you can answer that, that is your relationship between you and God. That is why you have a prayer life – so that if we’re falling short or we said something that wasn’t in love then the Holy Spirit is there to convict. And we know what to do, we get that very quickly under the blood of the Lamb. That is how you can maintain your walk with God twenty-four seven. It’s when Christians put it off – ‘ O I’ll deal with it tomorrow, or I’ll think it through first. ‘ – Then the problems come. That is why I always say to you whenever you have fallen short of God’s standard deal with it immediately. That is what an overcomer will do.
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2Peter 1:4
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 2Peter 1:5
And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 2Peter 1:6
And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 2Peter 1:7
For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2Peter 1:8
‘ Giving all diligence add to your faith. ‘ So here we are – he gets down to the nitty gritty. You have to have things added to your faith. You can only add to your faith if your faith is motivated by the love of God. Because the love of God will call out for these. The love of God will believe for these. The love of God needs these in our faith.. ..
